Voodoos solid in road victory vs. Eagles

Backed by a trio of power play tallies, the Powassan Voodoos went on to defeat the Soo Eagles 5-1 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League meeting at Pullar Stadium.

A team-leading 31st tally for Anden Marceau got the Eagles on the board 94 seconds into the matchup as he batted in a loose puck off a Micah Seery attempt from the top of the right circle that eluded netminder Cole Vreugdenhil.

Running a point streak to seven, Voodoos first-year forward Jax Pereira took a cross-ice feed from Marcus Krats and zipped it into the open side on Sault Ste. Marie starter Jace Knoerle during a man advantage to knot the affair.

The assist meanwhile gives Krats points in six straight outings.

Powassan then took the lead a minute and a half into the second period when Parker Bonsignore was spotted alone in front by Owen Head and roofed his in-close chance.

More from the Voodoos late in the frame saw Anthony Boyes supply his 15th of the season while up a skater when he finished off a solid give-and-go with Justin Rousseau.

Capping off the road result in the third, Powassan clicked on the power play early when Ryan Saginaw pumped in a rebound off a Caleb Dawson shot, with the assist seeing him move to a six-game heater.

Rousseau then put the guests up by four moments later as he finished off the leftovers off a chance generated by Heath Bradley to round out the scoring.

With the result, the Voodoos raised their record to 29-11-1-2 and with the loss, the Eagles drop to 20-22-2-1.

Both clubs are back at it Saturday as Powassan visits the Soo Thunderbirds while Sault Ste. Marie hosts the Espanola Paper Kings in a pair of 7 p.m. starts and on FLOHockey.tv.
