Voodoos surge through Rapids
A trio of Anthony Boyes tallies; multiple assists from Pavel Barclay and the initial Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout from Cole Vreugdenhil all played a part in a 12-0 romp by the Powassan Voodoos over the French River Rapids Friday at Noelville Arena.
Powassan’s Dylan Rousselle opened the scoring 3:25 into things with assists credited to Barclay and Jesse Lefebvre.
The Voodoos then went up by a pair just after a power play they were on expired as Boyes took a drop pass at the point from Braeden Begley and moved into the slot where he fired a shot past a screened Rapids’ netminder Matis Bureau-Morel.
A third in the session midway through the first period saw Tyler Brunet steer in a wrap around attempt from Barclay.
More work from Barclay had him set-up an open Boyes between the circles where he wired a rising wrister high over the blocker of Bureau-Morel.
Adding to their edge in the middle stanza, Justin Rousseau made a sharp pass across over to Heath Bradley, who was left with plenty of net to convert before Brunet on the power play bagged his second of the evening by neatly redirecting in a Begley attempt from up top.
The assist for Voodoos’ captain Rousseau was his 100th NOJHL point.
Going up by seven before the second intermission, Jax Pereira finished off a quick give-and-go with Caleb Dawson.
Efforts off the sticks of Rousselle; Pereira and Dawson, via the man advantage, early in the third, put it well out of reach before Zimmer with a tap-in late for a goal in his NOJHL debut and one final marker from Boyes finished off the romp.
