‘Wintry mix’ leads to special weather statement
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the North Bay area.
The weather agency says a low pressure system is expected to bring upwards of 15-25 mm or rain and about 5 cm of snow to the area.
Officials say the wintry mix of precipitation will start as rain Thursday night and change to snow Friday afternoon, with reduced visibility possible in heavy snow.
“The frozen ground will have a limited ability to absorb the rainfall and snow melt,” reads the Special Weather Statement. “Localized flash flooding and water pooling on roadways may occur for areas with poor drainage.”
Environment Canada says with temperatures expected to fall below freezing on Friday, any water on roadways and walkways will freeze, creating icy and slippery conditions.
The agency adds rain and snowfall amounts may change because of uncertainty in the track and intensity of the low pressure system.
