YMCA raising funds to send kids to camp
The YMCA’s Fill the Bus campaign is back again.
Funds raised help children and youth in North Bay access YMCA day camps, overnight camp experiences and leadership development opportunities, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
Last year’s campaign raised more than $121,000, helping hundreds of children go to camp.
“The YMCA is here to help people reach their potential and create stronger, more connected communities,” says Lorrie Turnbull, President and CEO of the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario. “Camp is one of the places where that work begins. Every child deserves the opportunity to feel a sense of belonging, discover their strengths and build relationships that support them as they grow. Through Fill the Bus, our community helps make those experiences accessible to more children and families.”
Upcoming events include the Nov. 1 North Bay Battalion game where fans can support Fill the Bus, then on Nov. 12 there’s a community breakfast and donation drive with 106.3 Jet FM morning host Mike Monaghan and Country 90.5 CFCH morning host Kevin Oschefski.
They’ll be bringing the excitement of the YMCA’s Big Camp Adventure to the event.
“We go from business to business all day that day,” says Monaghan. “There is going to be some competition. I win every year. I don’t know if I’d call that a competition. We’re raising money for the YMCA and all the great work that they do.”
21 Blue Sky Region Realty is returning as a matching sponsor this year for the Fill the Bus campaign.
Officials are encouraging businesses and community groups to support the campaign through sponsorships and donations.
