ZIMBALATTI, Beniamino "Ben"
Peacefully passed away at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the age of 87 years.
Ben was the beloved husband of the late Gaetana (née Ieracitano) Zimbalatti, and the loving father of Joseph Zimbalatti (Tracy) and Fortunata (Tina) Heppenstall (Tom). He was the cherished Nonno to Jordan (Emma), Maggie(Tristan), Sara, Sophia, and Elisa all of whom brought him immense joy and pride. The addition of Kayla, Erika, and Evan brought even more love and laughter to our family gatherings.
He was the much-loved brother of Giuseppe – deceased (Antonietta), Vincenzo - deceased (Gina - deceased), Antonino (Shirley - deceased), Gaetano (Franchesca), Francesco (Maria - deceased), Caterina (Domenico - deceased), Natalina (Stanley - deceased), Benito (Janet), and Silvio (Rosalind). Ben was predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Fortunata (née Fava) Zimbalatti.
Known to many as “Ben the Barber,” Ben was a fixture in North Bay for decades. The barbershop was more than just a place to get a haircut; it was a lively gathering spot filled with laughter, friendship, and stories shared (often over a shot of cognac). He had a natural gift for bringing people together, and over the years he hosted countless gatherings.
Beyond his work, Ben lived a very full life with many close friends. He was an avid golfer, hosting his very own ‘Ben Zimbalatti Classic’ for over a decade. He enjoyed foraging for mushrooms, a good Western movie and listening to classic crooner music. Above all, he was a devoted husband to Gaetana, caring for her lovingly through her illness with patience, strength, and unwavering devotion.
Known affectionately to his many nieces and nephews as “Uncle Bebo,” he was much loved for his kind, funny, always welcoming demenour (as well as for his exceptional hat collection). He will be lovingly remembered for his generous heart and the ease with which he made everyone feel welcome.
Ben will be lovingly remembered by his dear companion, Sue Gagnon, who brought warmth and friendship into his later years.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at the Cartier site of the North Bay Regional Health Centre for their exceptional kindness and devotion. Your gentle care made his time there one of comfort and dignity. Special thanks as well to Dr. Jinnah, whose remarkable dedication and genuine compassion brought peace and reassurance to both Ben and his family. We are forever grateful to all who helped care for him in his final months.
The family will be receiving visitors at McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Thursday, November 13, 2025, between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus Parish on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum (North Bay).
If desired, donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre would be gratefully acknowledged by his family. Online condolences may be made at www.mcguintyfuneralhome.com.
