Charges laid after arson investigation
A 37-year-old city man has been charged with arson after a suspicious fire investigation in the 1300 block of Algonquin Avenue.
The North Bay Police Service say it was contacted in the early morning hours on Monday by North Bay Fire and Emergency Services, which quickly sniffed out the fire.
They say two businesses were impacted with the fire causing more than $5,000 in property damage.
Police say through the course of the investigation, a suspect was identified and arrested at approximately 11 that night, in the area of Maplewood Avenue.
“North Bay Fire arrived quickly, extinguishing the fire and preventing further damage. They also immediately recognized the nature of this incident giving us the opportunity to act quickly,” says A/Deputy Jeff Warner. “Once the investigation started, our Patrol Section worked quickly with members of the community to identify the accused and make an arrest. This is a great example of our emergency services and community working together.”
The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
