Committee wants revised site plan and traffic study on daycare proposal
A council committee is looking for more information involving a 40-spot day care centre proposal on Gertrude Street.
It would see a residence become a full-fledged day nursery only, with no one living there.
Staff had recommended the request be denied.

They say it doesn’t conform with the city’s official plan, while some correspondence expressed concerns around parking, snow storage and clearing, along with off-site traffic impacts.
Others offered support, including the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board.
Officials say the West Ferris neighbourhood is one of the most underserved, with the highest number of children on childcare waitlists and that expanding the Montessori Children’s House will provide much-needed licensed childcare spaces.
Councillor Justine Mallah, Chair of Community Services says instead of being rejected outright, they’re moving forward with conditions.
“The recommendation was for it to be denied,” she says. “This is for it to be in a holding zone conditional upon on revised site plan and traffic study therefore it would have to come back to council to remove the holding zone.”
The same committee also approved a rezone request that would create 57 low density residential lots on Larocque Road, in the north end of the city.
A city staff report says a standpipe was constructed on Larocque Road, just north of the property with the intention of enabling new development.
That includes the 16-lot plan of subdivision created as Phase I of the subject property and a 49-lot plan of subdivision on land opposite the property.
