Diagnostic Imaging the focus of $1 million matching challenge

By Richard Coffin

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) Foundation is welcoming a donation it says will have triple the impact when the community gets involved.

FDC Foundation has committed an initial investment of $500,000 toward critical Diagnostic Imaging priorities at the health centre, plus a $1 million challenge gift.

The foundation says donations received by Dec. 31 will be matched 2:1, with the $1 million contribution unlocked when half a million dollars is raised.

“We are deeply grateful to FDC Foundation for their extraordinary leadership and generosity,” says Tammy Morison, President and CEO, NBRHC Foundation. “Their commitment comes at a pivotal moment for our Diagnostic Imaging Department and creates an opportunity for every member of our community to be part of something transformational. Together, we can strengthen diagnostic imaging at our hospital and ensure patients in our Northern communities continue to receive timely, high-quality healthcare, close to home.”

Officials say recent advancements in the hospital’s Nuclear Medicine Department include the installation of two advanced SPECT/CT systems.

The next phase of investment focuses on replacing and expanding core imaging technologies, with much of the current equipment installed when the health centre opened in 2011 and approaching the end of its serviceable life.

Priority projects include:
· Replacement of three x-ray units and two fluoroscopy systems
· Acquisition of a mobile C-Arm to support care in surgery, Orthopaedic Clinic, and Emergency Department
· Addition of a new ultrasound unit to expand access to care

“Investing in imaging upgrades isn’t just about technology,” says Dr. Jeff Hodge, Head of Service of Radiology, NBRHC. “It directly translates into improved diagnostic accuracy, procedural safety, and patient comfort – elements that our department strives to deliver daily.”
