James Irvin McDougall
Jim stepped into heaven Thursday, July 2, 2026. He was a committed follower of Jesus and knew his time on earth had come to a close. Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis stole his lungs, but he is at last breathing freely.
Jim was born July 18, 1942, in Toronto to Irvin and Thelma McDougall (predeceased). He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 59 years, Marg, and his two children, Kevin (Jennifer) and Jen (Merv). The absolute delight of his life was his grandchildren: Abby (Avery), Caleb (Kate), Ella, Ruthie, Haley, and Ryker. The addition of his first great-grandchild, Emmett James, brought him such joy. They will miss him deeply but carry wonderful memories of so much time spent together.
Jim had four sisters: Evelyn (predeceased), Joyce (Jim), Roberta, and Juanita (predeceased). Jim was also deeply loved by his brothers-in-law, Dave (Betty), Bob (predeceased), and Don (predeceased). Although he didn’t see them often, he always tried to keep in touch.
Jim graduated from the University of Toronto in 1965 as a Civil Engineer and spent his whole career at the Ministry of Transportation & Communication. His work took him to various parts of the province, but he called North Bay home. In his retirement years he enjoyed golfing, curling, painting, piano lessons and sharing his skills by being a sound man par excellence. Even though he was a homebody at heart, he willingly travelled to many places with Marg.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, July 11, at Lakeshore Evangelical Missionary Church (656 Lakeshore Drive, North Bay) at 2:00 p.m. Following the service, a sweets and snacks (Jim loved both) reception will be held downstairs, with an opportunity to greet the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Bay Pregnancy Help & Resource Centre or Nipissing Serenity Hospice. Online condolences can be made at www.hillsidefuneral.ca
