Local Psychotherapist Hosting Free Community Session on Anxiety, OCD, and Related Disorders

A local mental health professional is inviting community members to a free educational session focused on anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and related mental health conditions.

Brittany McCrea, Registered Psychotherapist and founder of Wellness Waves Psychotherapy, will host the event on Tuesday, June 16th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The session will be offered both in person at Port North Bay (222 Main St E) and virtually via Zoom, allowing for broader community access.

The event will include a 30-minute educational presentation followed by a live question-and-answer period, where attendees can ask questions before and during the session. Anonymous question options will also be available.

Focus of the Session

The presentation will cover key topics related to understanding and treating anxiety disorders, including:

  • What anxiety is and how it functions
  • Common types of anxiety disorders
  • The anxiety cycle and what maintains it
  • Misconceptions about OCD and intrusive thoughts
  • Evidence-based treatment approaches
  • How to find the right mental health support

The session will also touch on a range of anxiety-related conditions, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), OCD, panic disorder, health anxiety, social anxiety, agoraphobia, specific phobias (such as fear of vomiting), body-focused repetitive behaviours such as skin picking and hair pulling, and body dysmorphic disorder.

About the Presenter

Brittany McCrea, Registered Psychotherapist and founder of Wellness Waves Psychotherapy

McCrea has worked in the mental health field in North Bay and surrounding areas since 2013 in a variety of supportive roles. Since becoming a Registered Psychotherapist in 2024, she has completed extensive ongoing training in anxiety and related disorders.

She says her focus is on improving access to education and effective support for individuals experiencing anxiety, as well as addressing common misconceptions about these conditions.

“As the need for specialized anxiety treatment continues to grow within the community, I hope to help reduce stigma, challenge misconceptions, and empower individuals and families with a clearer understanding of anxiety and effective treatment options,” McCrea noted.
