Two Troops and former Trapper drafted to NHL

By Richard Coffin

Two North Bay Battalion players were drafted by NHL teams on the weekend.

Centre Ryder Cali was selected by the Florida Panthers in the second round, while the San Jose Sharks picked defenceman Alexander Karmanov in the seventh round.
West Nipissing’s Andre Mondoux, a former Trappers’ defenceman with the Kingston Frontenacs, was selected by the New York Rangers in the sixth round.

Drafted 48th overall, the Battalion say Cali becomes the highest NHL pick from the OHL club in the North Bay era.

Cam Dineen (Arizona in 2016), Ty Nelson (Seattle in 2022) and Ethan Procyszyn (Anaheim in 2024) were all chosen 68th overall in their draft years.

Centre Matt Duchene remains the highest draft pick in franchise history, taken third overall the Colorado Avalanche in 2009 when the Troops were in Brampton.
