Steps for Life walk takes place Sunday at the waterfront

By Richard Coffin

For the first time in ten years, a national walk is returning to North Bay.

Officials say the Steps for Life walk, taking place Sunday at the waterfront, creates hope and healing for people affected by workplace tragedies, and it helps to build safer and healthier workplaces.

“Each year I join in the Steps for Life walk in honour and memory of my son Brent Wade,” says spokesperson Joanne Wade.

She says Brent was 22 when he was killed when the dump truck he was driving collided with a passenger train.

“Steps for Life empowers me to continue my challenge for safer workplaces and more awareness of the devastating effects of workplace tragedies,” adds Wade. “We have experienced these losses. We are living every day with its effects. Step by step, hand in hand, sharing our stories, we go forth to try and bring everyone home safe and uninjured from their work.”

Steps for Life is a family-friendly 5-kilometre walk open to anyone interested in health and safety at work.

Funds raised support programs and services for those affected by workplace tragedies.

Registration for Sunday’s walk starts at 10 am at the Kiwanis Bandshell, with opening remarks at 11 am.
